"Where Everybody Knows Your Name" is a song sung by Simon Petrikov to entertain seven-year-old Marceline in "Simon & Marcy." The song is not an original written by Petrikov, but is part of the theme song from the TV series Cheers. Cheers is an American sitcom television series that ran for 11 seasons from 1982 to 1993. Simon Petrikov later sings it to help him keep himself under control while using the crown to fight the oozers.
The song is frequently used in Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake. In "Fionna Campbell", Fionna turns on Cheers on her TV, and finds that every channel is screening the show. In the next episode, Simon Petrikov similiarly turns on Cheers on his TV, prompting the theme song to play, becoming the opening theme for the episode as Simon is seen doing his morning routine. "Prismo the Wishmaster" reveals Fionna's TV only played Cheers due to her world being located in Simon's mind. In "Jerry", Fionna sings the song while she, Cake, and Simon walk in the Extinct World, prompting Simon to ask her to sing something else; unfortunately, Fionna only knows the closing theme from Cheers. The final episode of Fionna and Cake is named "Cheers", in reference to the show.
Lyrics (as sung by Simon inside the television)[]
Making your way in the world today Takes everything you've got. Taking a break from all your worries Sure would help a lot. |
Sometimes you wanna go Where everybody knows your name. |
Lyrics (sung by Simon as he tries to keep it together)[]
Making your way in the world today Takes everything you've got. Taking a break from all your worries Sure would help a lot. |
Wouldn't it be nice to get away? Where everybody knows your name. Where everybodyā¦ |

Fionna:
Making your way in the world today |
Wouldn't you like to get away? |
Original Cheers Lyrics[]
Making your way in the world today Takes everything you've got; Taking a break from all your worries Sure would help a lot. |
Wouldn't you like to get away? All those night when you've got no lights, The check is in the mail; And your little angel |
Hung the cat up by it's tail; And your third fiance didn't show; Sometimes you want to go Where everybody knows your name, |
And they're always glad you came; You want to be where you can see, Our troubles are all the same; You want to be where everybody knows your name. |
Roll out of bed, Mr. Coffee's dead; The morning's looking bright; And your shrink ran off to Europe, And didn't even write; |
And your husband wants to be a girl; Be glad there's one place in the world Where everybody knows your name, And they're always glad you came; |
You want to go where people know, People are all the same; You want to go where everybody knows your name. Where everybody knows your name, |
And they're always glad you came; Where everybody knows your name, And they're always glad you cameā¦ |
Trivia[]
- This is the first licensed song to appear in the show, the second being "Slow Boat to China," the third being "Mama Said," the fourth being "According to Our New Arrival," the fifth being "Francis Forever," the sixth being "Do The Boogaloo," the seventh being "Blue Magic," the eighth being "Let Me Call You Sweetheart," the ninth being "Slow Dance With You," and the tenth (and final) being "blue shift."
- Simon's knowledge of the song proves that the Mushroom War could not have began anytime before 1982, when the song was recorded and heard for the first time.
- Simon singing the song in two different (and both wrong/missing some words) variations may be another result of memory loss caused by the Crown.
