Introductions And Such
Hello, Internet. My name isn't meant for the eyes of mortals, but you may refer to me as Missy, which is a name that I've been using for roughly two years online. It's a nickname that people at home call me, so that's what I'm going with here.
Who am I? Well, I'm a fan of Adventure Time, like all of you. At first Adventure Time was just this thing that I'd hear people at school and hipsters talk about. Eventually my art teacher, who was a geek like me, got me into it and thought I'd like it. I started off watching the first season and enjoyed it well enough. But as the show got progressively more weird, I shyed away from it. But, since my younger siblings started watching it again, it eventually grew on me and I fell in love all over again. I've become devoted to it and rather like it now.
Other than that, I'm a geeky, lawful good aligned eighth grade girl with no job other than going off and obsessing over nerdy things, like this mathematical show. I like art and writing, and basically anything creative. I'm into singing and acting too, but I can't play an instrument to save my life. I'm kind of a hard person to get along with, due to my extreme sarcasm. But I think I'll fit in around here.
Good to meet you all.
What else do I like besides Adventure Time? Well, I'm the kind of person that stores like Hot Topic, Mind Games and For Your Entertainment cater to.
I love anime and manga, especially the magical girl genre. I watch and read a number of them, including Sailor Moon, Shugo Chara, Magic Knight Rayearth and Tokyo Mew Mew.
Though I read normal books too, like Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Another favourite of mine is, of course, the Adventure Time comics series.
Even though a lot of girls I know are starting watch more 'adult' TV shows, I still love cartoons. Other cartoons I like are Batman: The Brave and The Bold, Spectacular Spiderman (both shows that star the amazing voice talents of John Di Maggio.) and Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated.
My number one love is, however, Doctor Who. It's a great show and I highly recommend it to people who like sci-fi and adventure, not to mention the quirky charm of the protagonist, my favourite time travelling alien ever. I like Matt Smith's Doctor a lot and am really sad that he's leaving Doctor Who.
In case you hadn't guessed, I like superheroes. So, I watch most of the Avengers and Marvel movies. I'm really excited for Thor: The Dark World, as I love Christopher Eccleston from, see above, Doctor Who. (On the otherhand, I'm not looking forward to return of Loki, whom I do not like.)
I'm fond of video games, that I play with my younger siblings. My favourites are the Super Mario series, especially the RPGs, and the Kirby saga. I also adore the Pokemon games.
My favourite movies consist of a lot of Disney and Pixar, with a few live action things mixed in. I really like the Ghostbusters movies, and my current favourite Disney movie is Wreck-It Ralph.
I'm into online roleplaying and roleplaying period, due my literary inclination. I love writing and getting into the heads of characters is really interesting. I play Dungeons and Dragons and stuff a lot and really want to run a Doctor Who RPG someday.
I listen to a lot of J-POP, especially Vocaloid.
I guess could also say that I'm 'into' updating my profile page, since I do so obsessively.
I will guiltily admit that I watch Inanimate Insanity. It's really stupid, but I find it very amusing for some reason that I can't explain. Guilty pleasures...
Lastly, I collect dolls. Monster High dolls to be exact. I really like the gothic design of the characters so that they can appeal to both older girls who want edgier characters, and younger girls who like the cuteness of it all.
Favourite Non-Adeventure Time Characters.
I feel the need to share with you my fangirlisms and favourite non-Adventure Time characters.
Firstly, the Doctor, from Doctor Who, especially his Eleventh incarnation, played by the extremely awesome Matt Smith. (But I also like the Ninth, Tenth, Fourth and Sixth a lot.) He is one of my favourite characters of all time. He's sweet, he's smart, he's funny, he's heroic, he's a bit of a cuckoocloudlander, but he's cute a weird, quirky way. He's often arrogant and full of himself, and doesn't understand the way the human mind thinks, but he's still a great guy and tries his best to help people in need. I often fantasize about joining him on an epic adventure across time and space, but we both know that that's never going to happen.
I identify very heavily with Amu Hinamori, the protagonist of Shugo Chara. She may seem tough, but she's actually a big softie who doesn't know what to do with her life. She wants to be cool, so she doesn't let her inner self shine through. This is the manga that taught me to be myself, no matter what.
Vanellope from Wreck-It Ralph is cute and full of sass. Once again, she reminds me of myself due to the fact that I'm sarcastic and hard to get to know. She's also a cool character because she doesn't give a darn what other people think, and will stay true to who she is and what she believes in. Hey, she gave up being a princess in order to hang out with her friends and be herself.
Dawn from Total Drama is another one of my favourites. She's still slightly unnerving with her creepy aura reading and talking to animals, but she reminds me of Luna Lovegood and is really cute despite her quirks.
Speaking of Luna, I like her a lot too, for very similar reasons to Dawn. She has her head in the clouds all the time, and you can't really tell whether she's sane or not, but she's still a good person underneath all that. She's also really funny, what with talking about Nargles and things like that.
Donatello from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He's the smart guy, but no one listens to him, because he's such a high strung know-it-all. He's a huge geek, but you gotta love him because of his social awkwardness dorky mannerisms.
Fawful from the Mario RPG series. He used to be a toadie to Cackletta, but now look at him. He's a total megalomaniac who wants to take over the world. Sure, he's boiling with rage and insanity, probably about to burst, but you can't help but love him. He's enthusiastic about being evil and seems to really enjoy his job as master of all he sees. I'm a sucker for Engrish, and his way of speaking... It just sounds so hilariously redundant and half of it makes no sense. Fawful is just really cool.
However, I have a second contendor for the title of Best Mario Character. A certain jerk named Doopliss. Yes, he's just a "freak-in-a-sheet" ghost in a party hat and bowtie, but what a personality! He's so obnoxious and loves teasing people... He even tries to erase you from existence and take your place as 'Mario'! And his reason for doing this? Because he wants to. He's that self absorbed. I also have a fondness for the way he calls everyone Slick...
What I like about Adventure Time
Favourite Adventure Time Characters
Adventure Time is an amazing world filled with some many great characters. It's hard to choose just one, as my favourites shift from day to day, so here's a goodly number of them.
First, as my avatar shows, I like Marceline. I can really identify with her, who is a misunderstood artist type who often let's her feelings out in sarcastic and mean ways. But then again, she's not mean, she's a thousand years old. "And she's just lost track of her moral code." She's a really cool girl.
Nextly, I like BMO, who is a really cute guy. He's rather endearing, with that accent and that friendly disposistion. He's also really quotable and I just love imitating his voice. ("BMO Chop!") He's just super adorable and I love him a lot. If I could have my own BMO, I would.
PB is another good one. She kind of defies the stereotype of princesses being ditzy girls in puffy dresses who can't do anything on their own. Even though she does get kidnapped constantly, she's pretty capable and smart. She's also generally a good person with good morals. I also enjoy seeing her when she doesn't have such good morals and goes around slapping people around. It's hilarious when she gets angry and her voice goes all deep. ("You're darn right I am!") I also feel that I can identify with her, because she is a shameless goody-goody.
I like Peppermint Butler because of how creepy he can be sometimes. Once again, he defies the crowd's expectations. Who would've thought that the Princess's manservant would, y'know, try to summon a demon and things like that? Especially when he acts so cheerful around majority of the characters.
My favourite minor character is Doctor Princess.
However, my ultimate favourite character is the Ice King. As he even says in one episode, "Ladies dig men with tragic pasts." And he's right. I'm a sucker for his backstory, and it makes me cry everytime I watch it. Simon Petrikov was a brave man who met a sad end before descending into madness. He was smart and nice and I liked him a lot. He took care of Marcy and acted sort of like a father to her. Then he lost his mind, which was kind of cool, in a way, and became who he is now. He's crazy and evil, yes, but he's funny and still has a shred of good in him. He's also really pathetic and slightly petty, which makes him sort of pitiful. I like him because of that. He has a level of deepness that most characters, even ones in adult TV shows don't have. He's one of those characters that I get this really warm feeling whenever I see. It's hard to explain, but the best I can describe it is fangirling whenever you see the character, wanting to grab them off the screen and talk to them. And no matter how much you do this, even if you met the voice actor themelves, it still wouldn't be enough. I dunno how well I conveyed that. But whatever, bottom line is that I really like him. His lines are always great and overall, I think he makes a wonderful character.
Favourite Adventure Time Episodes
Oh gosh, where to begin...
Right now, as you could have guessed from my very long and very fangirly piece about the Ice King, it has to be Simon and Marcy. It's so tragic and has emotions in it that I doubted a carefree kids show could convey. It's an A++ episode that made me sad for an hour, but was it was a fun kind of sad that I loved and made me want to watch it again.
Similarly, I also like I Remember You.
Henchmen has a special place in my heart, because it was the very first episode of Adventure Time I ever watched. I remember sitting down and thinking, "What the math is this?" but I couldn't help but watch it. It was quirky and weird, but I liked it. I think.
I have a certain fondness for Loyalty To The King, because everyone in the Adventure Time world is so stupid that they actually didn't recognize the Ice King without his beard.
The three parter with Prismo (the Lich, Finn the Human and Jake the Dog) was also cool, because it explored things about the Mushroom War that I had never even thought about before. Also, it made the concept of the multiverse seem original and interesting for once.
On the same token, I also like the Lich's first appearance in Mortal Folly and Mortal Recoil.
Much like the three parter, Death In Bloom explored new spins on old ideas. And the underworld in this universe is pretty cool. The one thing that always cracks me up is when Jake says, "The Morrow is a bird." in super slow motion.
To round off this list, I have Marceline's Closet, which always cheers me up when I'm down. There are so many funny things about this episode, especially when Jake gets bitten by the spider. I half expected him to scream, but he didn't, he just moved his mouth without making noise.
I like a bunch of other episodes, but I'm not listing them, as this thing is already pretty long. Let's just leave it at 'I like pretty much any episode with Ice King'.
