"The Cooler" is the twenty-second episode in the sixth season of Adventure Time. It's the one hundred and seventy-eigth episode overall.

Synopsis

The Fire Kingdom is struck by a natural disaster and the Flame Princess seeks help from an unlikely ally.^[2]

Plot

The episode starts with a fire citizen waking due to his alarm. He shuts it off and says that it is freezing today. He goes on his pants, which are over sized for him now. He says that he finally lost weight and that exercise is the key. But there was a strange thing. He didn't exercise.

Fire Kingdom is shown from the outside view, and it appears extinguished. The Fire Elementals are worried about these strange happenings. One of the Fire Elemental Guards is ashamed because his headgear isn't emitting much flame, while another one says to him his entire body except head has been extinguished. Two brothers of the Fire Kingdom hug each other for warmth, but one of the brother ended up being absorbed by his older brother. Suddenly, the ground breaks and releases a cool air pocket which reduces the size of most Fire Citizens. In the discussion chamber, Flame Princess along with her brothers discuss the matter. She reveals that the magma in the kingdom is cooling down to cause these incidents, and weakening the life force of the citizens. Randy tells he will do his best to help the Kingdom, but Flame Princess tells him to stay here only. One of the Fire Elementals advises Flame Princess to make every citizen to hug each other for warmth, but this idea is disregarded. Flame Princess' older brother goes on a more radical view and says to blow up the Candy Kingdom.

While saying this, he asks his sister whether it is safe to talk about the destruction of Candy Kingdom in front of its ex-member Cinnamon Bun. Cinnamon Bun is seen trying to pick something in his nose, which Flame Princess tells that to avoid it. Flame Princess disregards the idea of her older brother, telling she needs Princess Bubblegum as an ally right now. Flame Princess' older brother asks Randy to call Bubblegum. As soon as he starts to call Princess Bubblegum, the ground below them releases yet another cool air pocket, but Cinnamon Bun arrives in time to save everyone there and take them away. She asks Cinnamon Bun to take her to the core entrance, to which he obliges. She also asks Princess Bubblegum to come and help her, but still regards her as an enemy to Fire Kingdom. Bubblegum asks her first name, but she snaps back at her saying they aren't friends. Flame Princess explains the situation, and they share their views as princesses. When they both reach near a huge door, Princess Bubblegum's Mondometer starts to act up.

She then asks Flame Princess what is behind these doors, to which she replies that there are ancient relics of Fire Kingdom, and no strangers are allowed inside. Bubblegum convinces Flame Princess to let her enter. Wanting the well being of her citizens, she lets Princess Bubblegum in, but warns her not to touch anything.

They enter through the doors, inside which are Sleeping Fire Giants, which she explains are there to help Fire Kingdom in times of crisis. She also reveals only the royal bloodline knows about their existence. As she starts to go further, she sings The Sleeping Fire Gods. While she sings, Princess Bubblegum starts to steal the power cores of these giants, while Flame Princess is unaware. As Flame Princess ends the song, she notices the power core of one giant fall and warns Princess Bubblegum not touch these. Princess Bubblegum explains that she is just putting it back. Flame Princess is convinced, but when Bubblegum goes past the giant, her bag rips off, revealing she stole these cores.

She gets angry at Bubblegum, and starts to attack her. She misses her first shot and one of giant gets hit and explodes. This much further angers Flame Princess. Bubblegum takes advantage of this and starts to mock Flame Princess. She gets more enraged and attacks Princess Bubblegum, each time missing as the Princess cloaks herself to avoid getting hit. When she was going to escape, Flame Princess blows up two of the giants
