- The special has several connections to Tarot cards. Members of the vampire court, The Fool, The Empress, The Heirophant and The Moon, all have titles which match the names of cards from the Major Arcana and each has some form of their personality that matches the meaning of their respective cards. Furhermore, the Vampire King refers to The Wheel of Fortune and The Chariot, both of which are also trump cards in the Tarot, in the episode Checkmate, and his character design may be partially based on the Strength card, which portrays a lion.
