The first episode of season 8, "Broke His Crown" premiered on March 26, 2016, and the season finale "The Light Cloud" premiered on February 2, 2017. Season 8 was originally meant to start with the episode "Two Swords", however, the numbering of the later seasons was adjusted to make it so that Adventure Time had 10 seasons, rather than the intended 9.

The episode "Islands Part 4: Imaginary Resources" won an Emmy award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation at the 69th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards in July 2017.

Adventure Time: The Complete Eighth Season was released on November 28, 2018 in Australia and New Zealand on DVD and Blu-ray. The cover features Flame Princess and removing the sleeve reveals her wearing the crown and armor.
Special features on the DVD include song demos and animatics.
Adventure Time: The Final Seasons[]
Adventure Time: The Final Seasons was released on September 4, 2018 in the US on DVD only. It contains the complete eighth season, along with seasons 9 and 10. The cover is the same as the Complete Eighth Season DVD released in Australia and New Zealand.
Special features on the DVD include song demos, animatics, a character art gallery, and a behind the scenes featurette.
Adventure Time: Islands[]
The Islands miniseries from Season 8 was released on DVD on January 24, 2017 in the US, and later released by Madman in Australia and New Zealand.
