The Heart of the Forest is the source of green magic. It is actually an ancient creature linked to the Dimensional Tree, a plane of existence that connects various realities. The Heart of the Forest acts as the gateway to the Dimensional Tree, and each universe has their own version Heart that bears unique characteristic rather than it being a singular entity throughout the multiverse.
Background[]
Although there is not much known about the Heart of the Forest's origin, ancient lore reveals that three bandits originally discovered the Heart many years ago. It bestowed splendid power upon them, but they became tethered to it; to keep their magic, they had to remain in close proximity, eventually becoming the first Green Wizards. At some point, the Heart of the Forest fled from them, much to their panic and began searching for it. After they found it, they schemed to trap the Heart by chaining its leg and burying it. Ever since, they have guarded the Heart and it's existence covetously from outsiders. Outsiders who become aware of it or one of their members leaking its whereabouts are met with swift retribution—death.
Role in the Plot[]
During an adventure with Simon in the woods, Finn receives a deep wound on his back from the Heart's thorny bush, which poisons him. Finn would be fall into severe sickness to the point he is incapable of waking up. Feeling responsible and driven by her loyalty to Finn, Huntress Wizard seeks to get an antidote from the Heart's saps to save him. After fighting and incapacitate Witch Wizard who guarding the buried beast, Huntress began to extracting the substance from its bush. However, she accidentally hurts it, causing the Heart to emerge, revealing a collosal cattle-like beast with the bush actually its crown, and scream loudly in pain. All the green wizards magic powers are suddenly nullified, and the Heart's face also shrinking inside and form a vortex, much to their anger and attempt to execute Huntress. While fighting, she slips into the Heart's portal that leads to the Dimensional Tree. One of her fragments eventually ends up in Fionna-World.
Later, in an attempt to help Finn, Simon, PB, and Marceline venture to its location, only to find it dying from its wounds and the Green Wizards trying to revive it. They realize it can no longer be saved, so Bubblegum puts it out of it’s misery with her Ball Blam Burglerber. This resulting in the gateway back to Ooo being destroyed in the Dimensional Tree.
After venturing for a while in Fionna's world for a while, Huntress finds out that the world's Heart is actually the roses throughout the city. It is also revealed that the Heart is also within her inner mope, and with it, she is able to return and access the Dimensional Tree.
Appearance[]
In the main Ooo, the Heart of the Forest was shown to be just a thorn bush. However, it is revealed to be just a crown adorned in the head of a creature that bear the appearance that resemble of a cow, but in gigantic size. It has tree-like body thwt contain green saps, which appear to be its blood. It appear to have a hollowed back and its legs are scattered with chopped hands that merged with it. After it got injured, the head turn into a spiraling vortex that open access to Dimensional Tree

- The Heart of the Forest being a deer-like creature is likely a pun based on "hart", an archaic term for a male red deer.
