Gems of Power are a major reoccurring items in the Adventure Time universe. They are gems that are imbued with various forms of power, allowing those who use them to use or possess magical qualities. These include protection against evil, Wish Magic, and activating spells using The Enchiridion.
Protective Jewelry[]
The Protective Jewelry of the Gems of Power is given to Finn and Jake by Princess Bubblegum in "Mortal Folly". Princess Bubblegum and possibly other elemental princesses and royals in the Land of Ooo wear this jewelry. The protective qualities of it are seemingly in the gemstones. The jewelry grants the elemental wearer protection from the Lich's powerful spells, most notably his ability to control minds. Finn's jewel breaks during his encounter with the Lich, almost causing the Lich to gain control of Finn. However, Finn is protected by the power of "liking someone a lot" infused in the sweater Princess Bubblegum made for him.
Ice King's crown[]
Ice King's crown contains three powerful gems that are capable of various different magical feats. These gems were originally the eyes of Magwood, and were taken by Urgence Evergreen in order to harness the power of their wish magic in order to stop a Catalyst Comet. His young apprentice, Gunther, put the crown on instead and wished to be just like his master, personifying his idea of Evergreen. From then on, anyone who wore it would become this childish version of Evergreen.
These jewels were used by The Enchiridion both from the standard Earth dimension and from the Farm Dimension to create a portal to the multiverse (albeit their positions being different in the two versions). They were also used by Lumpy Space Princess, among other gems, to end the elemental spell that had been placed upon Ooo.
The Enchiridion[]
Multiverse Portal gems[]
The Enchiridion possesses a section where gems can be inserted into it in order to create a portal to Prismo's Time Room. These gems (in the regular Earth Dimension) reside within what are known as the Crowns of Power, which are worn by Princesses and other royalty throughout Ooo. These gems have the ability to shrink in size and magically fly into the Enchiridion when the part of the book that they are contained in is revealed. This only occurs if they are within a certain proximity. These gems also have the ability to create a holographic display by combining their reflective light that shows visuals of the multiverse.
These gems are possessed by:
- The Ice King (biggest red gem)
- Engagement Ring Princess (blue circular gem)
- Emerald Princess (emerald diamond-shaped gem)
- Hot Dog Princess (red circular gem)
- Embryo Princess (magenta circular gem)
- Princess Bubblegum (light-blue circular gem)
Additionally, there three circular gems of power, a yellow gem, a lime green gem, and another blue gem are seen during the montage where Finn and Jake retrieve the crowns, though it is not shown to whom they belong.
These same gems appear in the Farmworld Enchiridion, where they are used to open a portal to all of the different realities. One of the more notable differences is that this worlds Enchiridion places the Ice Finn's crowns gem in the middle, rather than Princess Bubblegum's.
The Elementals' gems[]
The Elementals' gems are possessed by the incarnations of the Fire, Candy, and Slime Elementals. In "Skyhooks II", Betty Grof inserted them into the Enchiridion in an attempt to create a portal to the past in order to save Simon Petrikov (the Ice King) from the madness inflicted on him by his crown. When these gems were inserted, they moved to different sides of the page and warped the text on the page. These gems needed the assistance of Ice King's crowns power, which was connected to the book by jumper cables. Later on during this episode, Lumpy Space Princess came into contact with these gems, as well as the crown, and they began to float around her. She also had the Ice King's crown land on the top of her head. After this occurred, it allowed her to use the power of her Lumps to cure Ooo from the Elemental spell that it had been put under in episodes prior.
These gems are possessed by:
- Princess Bubblegum (light-blue circular gem)
- Flame Princess (orange four-sided gem)
- Slime Princess (lime-green oval gem)
It is unknown if these gems possess any abilities relating to their elemental wearers, as the (hypothetical) ice gem is mysteriously excluded.
Billy and Bobby's nose gems[]
Billy and Bobby both possess a dark-blue four sided gem in place of their noses. This gem projects a blue light that allows them to unlock the power of either copy of The Enchiridion after the other gems are inserted, or to activate a tutorial given by a holographic Booko.
Trivia[]
- In "The Lich", Lumpy Space Princess' star was revealed to be a gem, but it is unknown if it is a gem of power, as it was not compatible with the Enchiridion.
