Analysis: They must have had a different relationship than they did previously since they had a falling out which means they were either friends or were dating. Considering Marceline's song, it seems slightly more likely that they were dating but no confirmation so it's still a definite possibility that they were just friends. This is all we know. The song is very ambiguous. It's just as likely that the relationship was completely platonic. It's literally a 50/50 split. To me, whichever is "more likely" is whichever one you want. The only way this can be solved is if we interrogate Rebecca or look for more evidence in "[[Sky Witch (episode)|Sky Witch]]." Well can I first say that some of the fanfictione is unbelievably rude and no matter what carachters are involved not even an adult should be exposed to something so vile and vulgar. May I ask what kind of relationshp they have? I am pretty confused about it. What is currently written in their relationship thing seem strange but if they are lesbians/bisexual I totally support it. <3 :D DawnOfTheNewDay 15:46, September 27, 2011 (UTC)

There relationship hasn't quite been explained yet however in my opinion there is just some bad blood or something between them that caused them to hate each other and no its not the fact that they are lesbians if thats the only reason your asking "I'm a banana" - Ice King 17:45 September 28, 2011 (UTC)

It's not only the reason I'm asking. lol I'm asking because the canon and the fanon of the show have gotten so close it's almost a blurred line and I love Natasha, but she isn't helping me see where the line is. DawnOfTheNewDay 11:49, September 30, 2011 (UTC)

Sadly I have just read some of the fan fiction and I have to admit i am disgusted in some of the things some idiotic obsessed creeps that dare to call themselves fans have published to the Internet. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.219.36.162 (talkcontribs)

Imagine how some fanfictione would make John DiMaggio,Jeremy shada,Olivia Olsen and many other brilliant Adventure Time cast feel if they find out that there carachters that belong to a children's show have been described as some dirty sexist pig.I cannot stress enough how angry this has made me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.219.36.162 (talkcontribs)

I have been talking about this issue for quite some time. You can check my blog for very good info about that, most of the fan fiction and rumors started when Mathematical uploaded it's regular episode recap video for "What was missing."Since it was released the video had been flooding in with comments about their relationship. Many people were fueling more and more fan fiction which resulted in Mathematical removing the video entirely, or atleast making it private. Natasha's drawings of Marceline and PB were featured in the recap video, but she could have drawn those just for fun but people in my opinion overreacted to the whole thing, all because of "What was missing," the Adventure Time crew and writters never meant to make it look as if they were in that kind of relationship. Like I said people overreacted to the whole story.

Sadly I haven't heard of anyone's opinions of the episode, so I'm not sure what other people's reacts are. I have a feeling that fans, are hoping so much for a relationship because it's never be done before and there are the other people are hoping it doesn't happen. That's just my opinion. I'm just curious about what is real and what is fangirl/fanboy dreams. Natasha is awesome, but not helping. DawnOfTheNewDay 11:49, September 30, 2011 (UTC)
Yes, she is one of my favorite artists in Adventure Time, but her drawings didn't really help the matter. Even if they were drawn for "fun."
I've noticed she has done a few things that started a fan fire. I think she doesn't really see how much her words/pitures influence the fans of the show. Like with Marshall Lee and that Authur guy being the voice actor, it was a shot of dispiontment when I learned she lied about it just to see if a page was going to made on here. :/DawnOfTheNewDay 12:11, September 30, 2011 (UTC)

Ya dude, believe me when I say I really love Natasha's work but can't she see that like you said she has started to many fan fueld fiction, and if I was in her place I would not lie to my fans just to see how they would respond. Well I gotta hand it to her she really knows how to have fun. lol =] and start rumors..... Adventure Time hehe name taken? 12:45, September 30, 2011 (UTC)
She could at least tell us that the pictures are not canon! I think she sorta said it once. She makes fangirl heart hurt sometimes, but she is still awesome. DawnOfTheNewDay 12:51, September 30, 2011 (UTC)
Why should Natasha have to tell you something that is obvious? She created Fionna and Cake, which are not canon to the AT universe; the ending of the episode even spoofed on that fact by stating it was "FanFiction." Natasha created Fionna and many other drawings on her personal time, in no way should her doodles be taken as canon in the first place. -- Bunai82 (talk) 17:18, September 30, 2011 (UTC)
I know this, but not all fans are, may I say, 'catching on' and anything a artist from a show is drawing something about the show or something close to it, most people will assume that it is canon. It is bound to happen. DawnOfTheNewDay 17:26, September 30, 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the clear up.
But even if she did state that, I am sure the fandom would twist it in a way that suited them bleh. Animators/Writers shouldn't have to always worry about people taking their work out of context. But the AT crew is quite personal with their fans, so it is to be expected that they want to please people and keep to their intended vision and not get sucked in by Fanficion. Besides the Fionna and Cake ep, the writers have been pretty solid on what they are trying to do with Adventure Time. -- Bunai82 (talk) 17:36, September 30, 2011 (UTC)
Maybe it's the fans themsevles they are crazy, I understand AT team is very good with their fans and has kept us pleased so far but they have to be careful about what they say and/or post. DawnOfTheNewDay 17:46, September 30, 2011 (UTC)
Then it turns into celebrities are not allowed to have opinions. They also have to deal with people labeling them role models or influential when they never thought about that until someone accused them of it. I personally don't want to the AT crew to back down and go into hiding because of some flair ups over misunderstandings. It took a while for the creators of Avatar:TLA to even know what 'Shipping' meant lol. I say they can be aware, but shouldn't have to tip-toe due to a handful of wacky fans.
On another note, apparently Natasha edits to correct information but here but her edits get reverted? -- Bunai82 (talk) 18:01, September 30, 2011 (UTC)
I see your point! :) But wacky fans can create some big outbrurts. And I think that have be reverted sadly. DawnOfTheNewDay 18:05, September 30, 2011 (UTC)
I found the jealousy of PB and Marceline vying for the affections of Finn more interesting (and fiun). And that Lute Suit was hilarious.LuckyDay 17:28, June 3, 2012 (UTC)
I'll be heading off to other wikis to update. Thanks for the chat though.
I think the AT crew is slowly starting to understand just how large the AT fandom is and continues to grow. -I think the admins of this wiki should contact Natasha about misinformation so things can be presented properly, because if this wiki is getting things wrong, then it becomes an unreliable source. :( -- Bunai82 (talk) 18:36, September 30, 2011 (UTC)

Oh, I just love Marcegum, don't you? They're so cute together! Too bad it will never happen though. But that's what fanfiction is for people, stay strong! 67.142.178.27 02:34, June 8, 2012 (UTC)

i dont think it would be good for the story. as the tv shows events state they are both attracteted to males and have shown no sign of lesbian or bisexual tendancys, the only reason it seems to add a kesbian or bisexual relationship in the show would be to make a statment or some kind of protest and why would we bring real world polotics into the show? come on guy its Adventure Time!!.

It's not politics per se. And the suggestion that a straight relationship is non-political but an LGBT one is is a bit... privileged.  EvergreenFir  04:51, July 13, 2012 (UTC)
It's true that they've both shown to be attracted to males, but you can't say that it's proven that they aren't attracted to females just because they've never been shown to be. That's an argument in lack of evidence. It would be perfectly possible for both ladies to be bisexual. Anyway, those sorts of labels aren't even going to come up on a kids show. It doesn't have to be political, it can just be sweet! 35.11.145.173 22:04, July 22, 2012 (UTC)

I'm not at all againest the relationship between PB and Marcy that the fanon has created... but at the same time I think that it should remain that: fanon. Just because they obviously had some sort of previous relationship, it was most likely a strong freindship at best. And when you think about it, we do have some clues. Finn knows nothing about Marceline before he meets her... so obviously nothing like that could have happened while Finn was and adventurer that was good freinds with PB. While it is not obvious when Finn met PB, we know that he is a strong, confident adventurer at 12... and thus he's probably been adventuring for atleast a couple years before that. Lets say 9 for argument's sake... That means PB would have been something like 13 when Finn met PB... which is a little early for a relationship. Especially with a vampire that also happens to be immortal and over 1000 years old. I think that most likely PB was freinds with Marcy when she was a young princess and not in charge of the Candy Kingdom... then perhaps when she moved to inherit it or some such Marcy and her had a fallout. IMO that's just the most logical conclusion. No hate on the Fanon... but I'm ready to find out more about that in a backstory and find out where the dogs lie. -M_TheVampireKing

Actually because of the stuff from Princess Cookie and some other hints, it's probable that PB is some sort of unaging being, or at the very least she ages very slowly. She visited Baby-Snaps when he was still very young, however she appears to have remained the same age. Same thing with Lemongrab. So considering the fact that Marceline is much older than she appears, like Bonnibel could be, there's A LOT of time there for the two to meet, have a relationship and then part ways. Whether it was romantic or not, they've probably known each other long enough to have a closer relatonship than with Finn or almost anyone else. And...that also means that whenever PB met Finn, he was a child and she was, physically at least, an adult. So...Fubblegum is sorta creepy. Hazelnut333 (talk) 22:14, July 26, 2012 (UTC)
That really intrigues me actually. We always just assumed PB aged normally, but now I'm not so sure. Wouldn't it be neat if she turned out to be immortal, just like Marceline. That would make them perfect for each other. 35.11.145.173 01:47, July 27, 2012 (UTC)

I don't see any reason why Sugarless Gum should remain entirely subtext. Even if they don't end up together, it would be better for the writers to come out and say it on the show. They've already been through what little backlash resulted from the Mathmatical video, which was pretty blatent. Why not do away with the subtext then? If Finn can have a canon crush on PB, then PB and Marceline should be able to have canon romantic feelings for each other. 35.11.145.173 22:04, July 22, 2012 (UTC)

Okay, I don't care WHAT you say. The possibility of a lesbian relationship on a show for 10 YEAR OLDS is impossible. And, also, there is a storyboard of Marceline saying this: "I love him." So, this means she'll end up with either Simon Petrikov/Ice King, Finn (very unlikely), or a newcomer by the end of the series. So, forget about Marcelgum! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.228.201.161 (talkcontribs)

Implying bisexuals don't exist. Implying there aren't gay characters already in the show.

Why would you want that?

ThatGuySittingInTheCornerOverThere (talk) 22:36, January 22, 2013 (UTC)

The main thing to remember is just how overly emotional Marceline can be. I think the main reason for the way she acts becomes apparent from her past relationships.

Marceline has abandonment issues stemming from her traumatic childhood. She was separated from her parents at a young age and raised by a man who barely even knew who he was. I can see such a past leading to her clingy attention seaking attitude towards others and also explains why even an ending between friends could be devestating towards her. Marceline's main fear is being left alone again. Her main coping mechanism is to cast blame onto others and pretend that they weren't really important to her. Some part of her may have even cast blame on her father for her being alone for so long, which explains her running away from home.

In the end, her only stable relationship is with Finn and Jake, but I think it's only a matter of time before something happens to cause issues between them as well.

Whoswho 23 (talk) 06:18, January 28, 2013 (UTC)

It is clearly not just bad blood. Rebecca Sugar claimed that they "had a falling out" and this usually only happens between close friends and relationship partners, so they clearly used to be one of those two.

Even if that's the case, with Marceline, it wouldn't have to be a romantic relationship for Marceline to act out the way she did. We know from "Go With Me" that Bubblegum didn't like Marceline's dark personality, and from the same episode we see Marceline acting out in an attempt for attention. We also hear in "I'm Just Your Problem" that Marceling felt she was being ignored, but given her past, we can see why she would demand attention from every relationship she has, romantic or otherwise. The ending between the two was probably Marceline's feelings of being ignored reaching a boiling point at which time she turned to her coping mechanism of cold detatchment and cut ties entirely. I think the main thing that sustains Marceline and Finn's relationship is the fact that Finn often doesn't care how dark Marceline and has taken a more supportive attitude towards her.

Whoswho 23 (talk) 13:21, January 28, 2013 (UTC)

I've thought some more on this, and I think what the writers could do is actually make reference to this fan-ship by saying that the reason Bubblegum stopped talking to Marceline was because she made a crude joke about the nature of their relationship (something similar to Marceline's "No tongue" comment to Finn in "Go With Me"). Princess Bubblegum could have been offended by this, causing her somewhat dismissive reaction to Marceline in "Go With Me." The final falling out would probably have resulted from Marceline trying too hard to win back PB's friendship and finally getting fed up. It would be the perfect way of making reference to fan-shipping without letting the fans control the show (much like taunting us with the possibility of a F+J/F+C crossover, and also similar to how the subject of fan pairings was handled in "All the Little People").

PB AND MARCY ...

I DO NOT KNOW WANT TO SAY BUT MAYBE PB AND MARCY HAVE A RELATIONSHIP IN THE PAST...K.AIZZAT=FINN (talk) 18:59, July 5, 2013 (UTC)

Ok, here's all we know:

-PB and Marcy had a falling out (confirmed by Rebecca Sugar).

-Marcy gave PB a rock shirt for some reason and PB kept it and wears it often (confirmed by What Was Missing).

-Marcy said she shouldn't have to make up with PB and wants to "bury her in ground and drink the blood from her PRETTY pink face" (confirmed by What Was Missing).

-They clearly harbor some grudge against each other so it must have been really big or their just stubborn (Go With Me, What Was Missing).

Analysis: They must have had a different relationship than they did previously since they had a falling out which means they were either friends or were dating. Considering Marceline's song, it seems slightly more likely that they were dating but no confirmation so it's still a definite possibility that they were just friends. This is all we know.
