Since the Ice King's crown is in part based of Gollum's ring, are all the crowns equal to LotR Rings of Power? In LotR each ring bearer has their own kingdoms, much like each crown holder. This would explain why only the Ice King is driven mad while all the others are relatively sane. It would also explain why the Ice King has powers when no other crown holder does, aside from being able to survive missing body parts and possibly longevity though both of these might be due to other factors.

Actually, the rings of power in the Lord of the Rings did contain power. That is why they were called rings of power. For example, Lothlorien was kept as beautiful and well protected as it was because of the ring Lady Galadriel wore. Elrond even said that they were tempted to use their ring's power (for he, too, was in possesion of one of the three Elvish rings) to combat Sauron, but they knew they would be corrupted in doing so. It was only after the ring of Sauron was destroyed that all the rings lost their power.
I think that the jewels in the crowns give rulers similar powers to the ones seen used by Princess Bubblegum to protect her from the Lich. The Ice King's power is probably derived from the crown itself and not the jewels held in it. - Alchemical (talk) 06:36, December 11, 2012 (UTC)
