I've been avoiding the current season entirely so I can bingle watch it once it's over, but I have been checking the wiki, & I've noticed that characters who used to appear regularly in almost every episode are showing up less & less, relegated to minor roles & cameo appearances. How does everyone else feel about this?
Probably an unpopular opinion here, but I always hoped Bubblegum would get her own spinoff series. Marceline is popular, but she doesn't seem to have been in this season much either.

It seems, honestly that seeing all the new characters they introduced in the last two seasons.
(SPOILERS!!!)
"Jake's kids, Martin, Sweet Pea (Technically), Betty (Technically) The King of Ooo, Toronto," the roster has become bigger, meaning more characters to deal with, meaning that while they have more options to work with, that ultimately means that most of the characters in general are more spaced apart appearance-wise. Even then, creating said new characters to begin with may hint that the writers felt the cast was getting stale. Though even then, originally one-shot characters like Mr. Fox, has been getting much more attention in recent seasons. This is likely due to popularity, or rather they felt they could expand on him, even if his entire character development revolves around being sad and lonely. So really, it all seems to matter who the writers feel like using, and what they can get out of the characters. Some characters like Marceline, had her entire character development arcs finished, (except that there are a few unanswered questions about her past) but she is still on the show because she is a major character, regardless if the writers can or cannot think of anything new to say about her or have her do. But then again, while the show is very surreal and zany, it still tries to stay down to earth at some degree, and like real life, friends and enemies come and go.
