So I was re-watching "Memory of a Memory" and was wondering about the timeline of their relationship. We know that Marceline spent some time travelling around Ooo, which might have been right after their breakup, but I find that unlikely due to how easy it was for Ash to get Marceline to fall in love with him again. If Marceline had spent years resenting Ash for what he did, erasing their breakup wouldn't have erased the memories of her anger towards him, just as it didn't erase her memories of her friendship with Finn and Jake. My theory is that Ash and Marceline were in an "on and off" relationship for a few years leading up to their final breakup which was quite recent. One reason for this is Marceline saying that selling Hambo was "the last straw", implying he had wronged her before. I also can't think of any reason why Ash would wait to try to get Marceline back, unless he wasn't powerful enough a wizard to enter people's memories at the time.

Or he hadn't thought of it at the time. Really, though, we do not quite know long ago this was. My guess is that it happened before Finn and Jake moved into the Tree Fort. - Alchemical (talk) 23:12, February 3, 2013 (UTC)
Well, she did move around for a long time. Maybe he didn't know where she lived up until "Memory of a Memory".
